The North Carolina Composting Council offers a varied selection of courses, seminars and workshops on composting and organic materials management.
Professional Composting and Compost Use
The North Carolina Composting Council hosts a week-long intensive compost training course that will give you the knowledge to build your composting operation foundation. This internationally recognized course has taught over 180 professional composter’s important principles and practices since 2000. The 40 hour course will offer detail classroom lecture on compost science and engineering, facility design and compost use. We provide valuable practice problems, work sheet exercises and field work to learn procedures that will improve composting operations. The class will also tour composting facilities in our area. The Council provides beverages and snacks for morning and afternoon breaks as well as a daily catered lunch. Participants will receive a certificate of Technical Competence after completing this course. CEU’s are also available from various organizations.

Yard Waste Composter Operator Training
This is a 16 hour course is designed to provide professional development in Yard Waste Composting Operations for facilities that compost yard waste and storm debris. The course offers detailed lecture on the composting process, monitoring, control, stormwater and odor management. It also covers safety, equipment selection and maintenance as well as compost quality and end use. Participants will receive a certificate of Technical Competence after completing this course. CEU’s are also available from various organizations.

On the Farm Composting Course
This is a 16 hour course is designed for farmers that desire to compost agricultural residuals from their crop production and or livestock operations. All Compost feedstock is produced and finished compost is used on the farm. Key topics covered in the course are composting methods and equipment, regulations, odor and vector control, site and environmental considerations, compost quality and end use. Participants will receive a certificate of Technical Competence after completing this course. CEU’s are also available from various organizations.
