P artnership for Landscaping and Naturescaping TrainingWhat is it? The Partnership for Landscaping and Naturescaping Training ( PLANT) workshop will introduce you to a yard care system that includes composting, grasscycling, soil stewardship, toxicity reduction, and naturescaping. Each workshop is led by certified PLANT trainers and includes both classroom and outdoor activities. Comfortable, casual dress is encouraged. Bring work gloves.Who can attend? These workshops are designed for homeowners, recycling coordinators, environmental educators, and other natural resource specialists who want to work with their respective constituencies to encourage better management of water and nutrient resources, while at the same time reducing chemical run-off and other negative impacts to soil and water quality. Gardeners, on-farm composters, nurserymen, landscapers, and many others will also find these workshops useful. Why should you attend? Find out how the approach can lower maintenance requirements and encourage long-term soil fertility and biodiversity. It promotes the use of well-adapted plants, especially native plants that are matched to the site, so there is less need for pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, and additional water. Reducing the use of toxic chemicals in the yard is better for people, as well as wildlife. The outcome is a more beautiful yard and an improved environment. Each year, more and more people move to the Carolinas. We need to act now to protect our air, water, and land quality. Sponsors want to work with the public to encourage positive home yard care and other horticultural practices which will enhance the future of our states. We hope you will share these ideas and practices with your local governments, community groups, businesses, and homeowners. When and where?
